On Saturday, April 10th, 2021, Babylon Little League made it’s long awaited return to play. A year after our spring season was wiped out, President Ben Gold proudly stood on the mound at Locust South Field and was able to declare “play ball!” as the Diamondbacks and Nationals kicked off the 2021 spring season.
While the ceremony was smaller in scale compared to past years, and masks were present, kids and parents were thrilled at the ability to play once again. Mayor Mary Adams, along with village trustees were in attendance, with Mayor Adams throwing out one of three ceremonial first pitches. Vice President of Softball Brian Mollico represented our softball division, throwing a strike to Eliana Romero. An offer was made to last year’s president, Colin Coffey, to throw out a pitch, but he deferred to his son Bretton.
During the 30 minute presentation, Gold announced that the league was dedicating the season to the memory of Mayor Ralph Scordino, who passed away in October. Coffey spoke glowingly about the connection the late mayor had with the league.
The league also announced that Sean Probert was the winner of the Bunger surfboard raffle. Congratulations and thanks to Bunger Surf Shop for their support.
Special thanks to Patkin Photography for a great photo night earlier in the week and their sponsorship of Opening Day, as well as all the league sponsors for their support!
